Drug Task Force (DTF)
The week of July 3-7, 2023: The Drug Task Force (DTF) is dedicated to fighting the war on the rise of illegal narcotic sales. DTF Detectives had approximately 50 suspicious vehicle contacts this week, two of those contacts alone led to the seizure of the following narcotics: ¼ pound of Fentanyl powder, over 2600 Fentanyl pills, 98 grams of Methamphetamine, and 4.41 grams of Cocaine. Arrests were made and criminal charges were referred to the prosecutor’s office. In addition, on Friday evening, Drug Task Force Detectives contacted a suspicious person, when detained the suspect tried to reach for his waistband several times. Detectives recovered a 9MM pistol from the suspects waistband and he was found to be in possession of 129 Oxycodone Pills, 4.53g Heroin, 35.38g Fentanyl, 365g Methamphetamine. In total, 14 ounces of narcotics were located inside the suspect’s backpack.
DTF conducts narcotics interdiction emphasis and investigations into drug dealing on the Reservation. The DTF K9 team has been highly successful, Tulalip Police K9 Officer “Buster” has one year in service and has seized over 100,000 Fentanyl pills, 9 pounds of Methamphetamine, 4 pounds of Heroin, and 1 pound of Cocaine and Fentanyl powder. TPD is taking action against Fentanyl
On August 31, 2023, the TPD Drug Task Force executed a vehicle search warrant and discovered 13 Oxycodone pills, 56.93g of heroin, 11.32g of meth, 1.11g of cocaine, 6.24g of fentanyl, 16 Adderall pills, and $4,110. A firearm was found in the vehicle during the search, and an addendum was written. While executing the addendum, a stolen Glock 19 handgun was discovered. Scales and baggies were also found, indicating that the narcotics were intended for sale and not personal use.

Accident Near Sunny Shores
On July 19, 2022, at approximately 12:30 p.m. Tulalip Bay Fire, Marysville Fire, Tulalip Tribal Police, and the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and Collision Investigations Unit responded to a call about a motor vehicle accident near Sunny Shores and Marine Drive.

Missing Person Mary Ellen Johnson-Davis
The Tulalip Police Department would like your help in locating a missing person. Mary Johnson, age 40, was reported missing by her husband on December 9, 2020. Mary was last seen walking on Firetrail Road (140th) Tulalip, WA, on 11-25-2020. Mary had arranged to meet a friend on Firetrail for a ride to Arlington. She never arrived at her destination. Mary has not been in contact with her family or friends.
Memorial Service for Officer Charlie Joe Cortez
On November 17, 2020 the Tulalip Police Department lost Officer Charlie Joe Cortez in the line of duty. Officer Cortez was 29 years old when his patrol boat capsized while responding to a call. His remains have not yet been recovered.
Charlie was a son, brother and father of two beautiful children. Charlie was a Tulalip Tribal member. He was born, and raised on the Tulalip Reservation which he proudly served. Please join us to honor his sacrifice and support his family.
TPD Lost Officer
On November 17, 2020 at approximately 8:30 pm two officers with Tulalip Tribal Police Department Fish and Wildlife Division were following another boat into the Everett Marina to ensure the fishermen reached port. The Tulalip Fish and Wildlife Officers were returning to Tulalip Bay Marina when a rogue wave hit their 24ft patrol vessel causing it to capsize. Both crew members were thrown into the water.

August 15th, 2019 -- The sale and use of illicit drugs is an epidemic, not only on the Tulalip Reservation, but across the nation. The Tulalip Tribal Police Department is committed to halting the sale of drugs on our reservation.

Cougar Sightings
December 1, 2019 -- Three confirmed cougar sightings around Mission Highlands/Turk Road and y-site areas.
Encountering a cougar: Relatively few people will ever catch a glimpse of a cougar much less confront one. If you come face to face with a cougar, your actions can either help or hinder a quick retreat by the animal.
Motor Vehicle Accident
July 9, 2019 -- Yesterday, there was a serious motor vehicle collision that closed Marine Drive from approximately 4:00 pm to 10:30 pm. This incident is still under investigation and the information is subject to change. This is a summary of the facts known at this time.
Illicit Fentanyl Detected in New Forms
December 7th, 2018 -- The Washington State Department of Health reports that illicit fentanyl is being detected in new forms and is causing an increasing a number of overdose deaths in the state.
Tulalip has adopted the Lois Luella Jones Law, if you have a friend who is overdosing; you can and should call 911.The law says neither the victim nor persons assisting with an overdose will be prosecuted for drug possession.

Tulalip Police Response to Reported Threat
October 4th, 2018 -- On Tuesday, October 24th, the Tulalip Police Department received a phone call from SNOPAC, the regional public safety communications center that dispatches 911 calls for Snohomish County. The call described two armed men, in camouflage, walking towards the Betty J. Taylor Tulalip Early Learning Academy.

June 23, 2020 -- at approximately 0430 hours, three male subjects broke into the Tulalip Pharmacy by smashing the glass door with a rock. The suspects stole a variety of medications and then fled in a dark colored car that was driven by a fourth accomplice.

Phone Scam Targeting Elders
October 29th, 2018 -- There has been a phone scam circulating in our community targeting Grandparents and Elders.
The scam typically begins with a person pretending to be a grandchild asking their grandparent or respected elder for help. The person on the phone will begin with something like, “It’s your favorite grandson” or, “ Do you know who this is grandma?” and after they learn the name of the person they are impersonating ,they will develop a story where they need financial assistance or money for an ‘emergency.’
Graffiti Art vs. Vandalism
August 1st, 2019 -- Graffiti is defined as markings, as initials, slogans, or drawings, written, spray-painted, or sketched on public or private property. Intention and consent are the differences between street art and vandalism. Artists have permission from the property owner, vandals do not. Graffiti vandalism is unwelcome and hurtful to home and business owners.
